Character Reveal

November 8, 2020 (Bible Devotional)

The Bible gives us an exact way to know who is godly. The tests for the Christian faith is not a profession but a practice. When Jesus comes, he will say to many that he never knew them. We can profess to love Christ, yet our righteousness failed to exceed the righteousness of the Pharisees. Many children of the devil sitting in church pews. And some of the most wicked agents of the devil bear the token of Christianity. Yet, Christ gives us the real test. Love for neighbor gives away the children of God.

We have a special mission to the least of these. Christ wants to know how we treat the lowest among us. Many times we fail to show compassion to the hurt and suffering. The orphans and widows are neglected. And we live our lives expecting to enter into the realm of the blessed. We abandon the sick, we shun the imprisoned, and we exclude the poor. Without brotherly love, we have the most robust evidence that we are children of Satan even though we may attend church every Saturday.

A home is where Christian love is not manifested is a habitation of devils. We may be tempted to believe that simply because one goes to church, they are Christians. No, not at all. The best agents of Satan are the family members in a prayerless home. Without the enduring power of Christ and love for each other in the home, church, school, workplace, and nation, we are Satan’s puppets. The Lordship of Christ in our lives is manifested in our love for one another. This is why the Bible classifies one who neglects their family by not providing for them as worse than an infidel.

We need the provision of love. The love of God is practical. We love God when we live in harmony with his teaching. And the teaching of Christ will lead us to practice courtesy in our home life. Yet, this influence is not limited to the home. Wherever we go, we seek the highest good of those around us. We learn to love like Christ. We encourage, we teach. We rebuke. And We love. The works of righteousness mingle with compassionate love for our brethren are evidence of our allegiance to God. If we are children of God, may God keep us that way. If we are not Children of God, may God help us become one.

The Prayer — Heavenly Father, we desire to do righteousness. Help us to love our brothers and sisters. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
