Be Contented with What We Have

It will never be enough.

No matter how much we earn or have financially, if we do not learn to be contented with what we have, we will always be left wanting. In the end, we’ll end up unfulfilled, dissatisfied and ultimately bitter.

Yet, these tendencies are often nurtured from when we were young. From wanting that awesome toy another kid had, to that cool pair of Air Jordans, or that amazing calculator watch, to that new state-of-the-art iPhone, or that new Shimano roadbike, to that dream BMW roadster. And the list keeps growing and growing.

Have you realised that these urges never seem to go away even after we have obtained them. There’s always something bigger and better than will just come along to tempt our heart’s desires.

The frailty of our human wants, disguised by our needs deceiving us into thinking that we will be fulfilled once these cravings are satisfied.

Momentarily, yet they never do.

The seed of fulfilment is contentment. So, don’t just learn to be contented with what we have, but teach our kids that it’s ok to dream, but not to the extent where we are only driven by these materialistic urges.

That true fulfilment isn’t found in the accummulation of wealth but in truly creating a life of purpose with what we have.
