A married couple from Santa Clarita have their lives turned upside down when Sheila dies.

Created by Victor Fresco this is not a typical zombie show. It is more of a zombie comedy. Yet it is about a family living in the suburbs. There are scenes of Sheila tearing apart flesh of another human. SCD is a comedy that allows a family to talk about bile and dismemberment in a comfortable way. The way any normal family would talk about what the children did at school that day.

Sheila and Joel played by Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant are real estate agents with daughter Abby played by Liv Hewson. They have pretty boring lives, nothing out of the ordinary. But within half an hour of episode 1 Sheila is violently ill. She throws up a huge amount of green bile and what looks like an organ. This is when the human flesh cravings started.

Luckily they lived next door to nerdy Eric played by Skyler Gisondo. He discovered that sheila was a zombie, both dead and undead. But he could not tell them why she was one.

Sheila became very hungry and kill her coworker Gary. He tried to force himself onto her sexually. She did tried eating raw animal meat but it just didn’t taste the same as human flesh.

Sheila also found that being a zombie made her personality change. Joel and Sheila’s relationship improved, Sheila just had to go easy on the biting.

Being a zombie can’t be easy. Not when you live next door to Dan, the corrupt deputy sheriff. When Dan finds Gary’s finger in Joel’s back garden he tries blackmailing Joel to kill people for him. This included criminals and a man sleeping with his wife. But Sheila and Joel did not murder these people. This resulted in Joel killing Dan with a shovel.

After eating Dan, Sheila was hungry again. She decided that eating criminals might be the way forward. So Joel and Sheila went after criminal Loki as ordered by Dan previously. Turns out they aren’t great murderers yet and Loki got away with only a bite from Sheila. Obviously he then turned into a zombie too. This turned out to be a good thing. Loki and Sheila bonded over being undead and having body parts falling off. Unfortunately this didn’t last long. Loki tried eating Joel, so they had to kill him this time.

Dan is reported missing, so more police turn up at the neighbours. One of them starts dating Dan’s wife Lisa. Sheila and Lisa are good friends, so Sheila must compose herself. Eric didn’t really like Dan as a step father, and starts bonding with Joel. They work together to try to find a cure for Sheila. They manage to track down Dr. Cora Wolf. He had worked on a cure for the virus. This was based on an ancient Serbian book. Dr. Cora Wolf found she could try stop the deterioration but not make someone live again. The only ingredient needed was the vomit of a pure born Serbian. Sheila and Joel visited Abby’s principal’s Serbian grandmother. However getting her to throw up was harder than anticipated.

The last episode had Joel arrested and institutionalised. For being in principal Novak’s Baka’s house. Abby tried the unfinished cure on herself. It had no impact on her negatively or positively. Sheila decided to keep herself locked in their basement. This was an attempt to stop her from killing anymore people. With this Dr. Wolf leaves but entrust Abby with her Serbian book on zombies.

Joel gets out of the asylum, Abby finds the pure Serbian Bile and Sheila’s out the basement. Even though she violently killed someone in their kitchen. Things seem to then go back to normal. Sheila and Joel go for a big listing at work. Abby and Eric go back to school.

Things go strange when the adults have to deal with Gary’s severed head. Turns out they didn’t know you needed to kill the brain of a zombie. A new housing development is to be built where they buried Gary. So they had to dig him up only to find him as a zombie head. Soon enough Gary and Joel are best friends.

The weird girl Romona from the store befriends Eric. Turns out she is also undead and has a stash of human parts in her fridge. They keep exchanging texts and Abby encourages Eric to ask her out. When Eric visit’s Romona’s he find a corpse in her bathtub. In panic he calls Abby for help. Soon after Abby bursts into Ramona’s apartment but realises that they’ve just had sex. Ramona spills everything, she wanted to get close to Abby’s family so that she can have a cure. Eric helps her and then she leaves and doesn’t want anything from Eric anymore. She decides she is to move to Seattle. Ramona asks Sheila if she could look after the red ball that she threw up during transformation. At Ramona’s apartment Joel finds a receipt for Japopo’s. The restaurant they went to when Sheila ate the clams. Just before she turned.

Sheila starts using some of her extra energy by chasing animals in the desert. This comes in handy when her and Joel are competing with high school rivals for a listing. Sheila lets the home owners dog out the front door, but chases it and saves it. This wins over the home owner as Sheila blames their rivals for leaving the door open. Mean while at school Abby hits another kid over the head with a food tray. She was standing up for another classmate.

Gary’s head is kept in their basement. So it was not long before Abby found him. Joel and Sheila decide they should kill him, Gary agrees. He asks for a favour before he goes. Sheila and Joel are to bring a deed to Gary’s niece Kayla. Who then asks them to retrieve her car back from her ex boyfriend. They go to find her car to find her ex boyfriend is a nazi. Which is funny because in season 1 Joel and Sheila describe their ideal kill as a young single Hitler. Therefore ex boyfriend Boone is a guilt free kill.

Joel goes undercover at Jopopo’s. However they recognise him from the bad review he gave before. He agrees to write a good review for them in exchange for information on where the clams came from.

Joel and Sheila rent two storage units. One for Gary and the ball creature to stay in. The other to be used as a kill room. Sheila arranges the nazi Boone to come visit her there. She kills him and his friend.

Sheila goes to a meeting with Carl and an investor. Sheila in frustration and nerves bites off her own finger. Eric helps Sheila with her finger and lets slip about Abby hitting someone at school with a tray. Being responsible parents they take Abby to Principal Novak’s house to apologise. He expelled her anyway then accidentally shuts Sheila’s finger in the door. Sheila pretends to be hurt and Novak ends up un-expelling Abby.

Meanwhile Eric breaks into Japopo’s back office to find out where the clams came from. Ruby’s Clams.

Joel goes to Ruby’s Clams and meets the owner. She show him the clam farm, which was grown from 4 clams found in a cave in Serbia. She informs Joel they’ll be shipped out to restaurant’s int he morning. Joel steals a clam for Eric to look at, he tries killing it but nothing works. Sheila and Joel go back that night to steal all the clams. However Ruby catches them. But Marsha and Paul turn up and blow up the building.

Sheila and Joel get Gary to record a voice mail on Dan’s phone. The message should lead the police to believe that he and Dan are on the run. Abby and Eric plant the burner phone in Dan’s closet for Anne to find.

Sheila and Joel take Gary to the desert for his funeral. However Anne catches them. They tell her the truth. Anne shoots Sheila, who is unharmed, and Joel shows her Gary. Anne see’s this as an act of God and that Sheila is an instrument of God.
