My Experience at Google Africa Challenge Scholarship

I have always looked for opportunities to advance my skills in Web development until I got to know about the Google Africa Challenge Scholarship program in partnership with the Andela Learning Community. I did not hesitate to apply and to my greatest surprise I got the scholarship the message was “… Congratulations on bagging the Google Africa Challenge Scholarship through the Andela Learning Community.What an opportunity you got there!…”. I signed up under the Front end web development track. The experience was quite educating and also challenging too.

Slack is a platform where awardees such myself and other members of the ALC Family, basically the Project Managers, Program Assistants, Community Mentors and Meetup Facilitator interact. A virtual party was held on the platform in the first week of the challenge. It was awesome interacting with people of like minds having the ambition of becoming world class developers.
The party was fun but the real deal awaited us, which was completing the challenge before the set time.

In the cause of the program about three meet-ups where held in various location in Africa to make the learning experience as interesting and engaging as possible. participants where re-distribute based on their current location. The meet ups held where awesome, it was really helpful to me in the course of solving some tasks.

It doesn’t all end on the completion of the challenge. After the deadline is reached, 500 awardees out of 15k participants will be chosen for the Nano Degree phase of the program.
