Love Note to Technology

In honor of Valentine’s day, I decided to write a letter to one of my loves — Technology.

Dear Technology,

Growing up in various countries, I have had to learn new languages, get used to different cultures, fall in love and out of love with pizza, and also my favorite and, at times, my least favorite — meet new people.

Throughout it all, I have had one stable love…You — Technology. You allowed me to communicate and speak to people when I didn’t understand what they were saying. You made me feel like I was part of a community. You were my binding agent and the love language that let me connect with others.

I am excited about new changes that are happening in your world and hope to grow old while learning and trying your new concepts. You have already given me so much: From Whatsapp that lets me talk to my friends and family across the world, to LinkedIn that enriches my present state of mind, to InDesign that allows me to pretend that I’m more creative than I really am, to SCOM that I can use to monitor hypervisors, all the way to dual monitors that help maximize my productivity.

We are used to each other. Sometimes it feels like you can read my mind with ads for exactly what I need — and sometimes really don’t. When I feel like I don’t know what people are talking about, I know I can rely on you to fill in the gaps.

I am not naive enough to think that you are all unicorns and butterflies. I realize that you have been the cause of many problems in the world. I see how this world has exploited you. However, I believe the good far outweighs the bad.

Sometimes, I know I get frustrated with you because I can’t figure something out, but every time I do realize that even through the struggles, I still learned something new with you.

I also realize that I tend to take you for granted. I promise to try to be better. I am lucky to be born in a time that is rooted in technology and am happy to have it be part of my life. I am also honored to work in a field that is very dependant on your success.

You inspire me and help me grow. I am optimistic about how our lives will continue to intertwine and look forward to the next milestone in our lives.

Love,

Lekshmy
