Homemade Cookies vs 3 Ingredient Cookies

This past weekend I decided to put my mom’s amazing cookie recipe to the test. Now, my dad absolutely loves these cookies and refuses to even consider that there may be a better cookie out there. They are a toffee chocolate chip cookie, and let me tell you they are AMAZING. Saying that they are quite time consuming to make; at least for me, because not going to lie it normally takes me longer to make pretty much anything in the kitchen. So, I thought to myself what if I found another chocolate chip cookie recipe that was quick, fast, easy, and most importantly delicious! I kept that in mind while searching on Pinterest and lead to me finding a 3 ingredient cookie.

Before I made the 3 ingredient cookie I had to make my homemade cookies. Now, my mom wasn’t the creator of these heavenly cookies, she too found these on Pinterest. She has just been making them for such a long time that it feels like it’s her recipe. That being said, she has made a few changes to the recipe, the main one being how she always adds plenty extra of vanilla extract.

First, you have to melt the butter in a saucepan. While this is melting you combine the all-purpose and bread flour, baking powder, baking soda, and lastly the salt into a medium sized bowl.

Then in a separate bowl, mix together the melted butter, sugar, and brown sugar. Mix with an electric mixer until well combined, this may take a few minutes. Next, add in all of your eggs and mix until combined.

Add the dry ingredients slowly into the egg and sugar mixture, make sure to combine until a dough forms.

Lastly add in the chocolate chips and toffee pieces.

Put them on a nonstick cookie sheet and bake in the oven at 350ºF and bake for 12–14 minutes.

This is what the final product looked like and let me tell you they tasted amazing. I had some of my friends try the cookies and they agreed that these cookies are delicious. That only means these 3 ingredient cookies would have to be out of this world to even compare to my mom’s homemade cookies.

The 3 ingredient cookies were very easy to make; of course it only took 3 ingredients to do so. They took me maybe 5 minutes to make, and that’s with rounding up on the time. Now that being said, the cookie dough dried out rather quickly which made it a lot harder to scoop and put on the baking trays. I’m sure that if it were done right away you may get better results, but just keep that in mind if you happen to decide to use this recipe.

First, you have to melt the two sticks of butter and then add them into the cake mix. Combine those together until a dough forms. Then add in your choice of chocolate chips.

Scoop them onto a nonstick baking sheet and bake for 12–15 minutes.

Now…these cookies were nothing like the picture I saw on Pinterest. I have no clue what went wrong, but these cookies were not at all what I was expecting. As I said before, the dough dried out fast, and they wouldn’t bake right. The outside edges baked much faster than the center, which caused the outsides to get very crispy when the center still wasn’t cooked all of the way. You can’t really see it based off of the pictures, but when the cookies came out of the oven there were tiny little bubbles all along the outside. I had to take them out before the edges were too burnt, but the center finished baking on the tray out of the oven.

As you can see these cookies look no where near as good as the other recipe (in my opinion). There are a lot of cracks all throughout the cookies, but they don’t look that bad. I think that this was the batch that we had to put back into the oven because they just didn’t seem to be baled all the way through. As for the taste, they weren’t half bad, not as good as the made from scratch cookies but pretty good for what they were. The main complaint would be the texture, they were a little too crunchy in my opinion, but that’s mainly because I prefer softer cookies. That being said, it’s kind of surprising considering the centers were still doughy after the 12 minute timer went off.

One other thing I encountered while making the 3 ingredient cookie was the chocolate chips melted into the dough before baking. Something was not right, I mean I’m no professional baker, but I’m certain the reason that happened was because the melted butter that was in the dough was still warm causing the chips to melt. Keep that in mind if you decide to try this recipe.

So, overall my friends and I unanimously voted and said my mom’s homemade cookies were way better. Now that doesn’t mean I haven’t been eating the other ones (because I have), it just means they couldn’t beat out the best. Which having them only being made from 3 ingredients makes it really hard to even compete with the original ones. It was a decent contender, but it just didn’t live up to high standards my mom’s cookies set.
