Noah’s Ark Part 2

I locked myself in my room and booted up an episode of JH Christopher and Friends. I needed something to take my mind off the Genesis Contest, to numb myself to the embarrassment I’d suffered at the hands of the Moirai.

It was the season finale. The industrial kingpin, Mammon, had revealed himself to be a level 666 martial artist, and everyone in JHC’s village had become corrupted by the villain’s Dark Qi spell. JHC leaped into action. But, as per the climactic moment of every episode, the villains have beaten our titular hero to a bloody pulp.

Something was different this time. Mammon was the season’s final villain, and after 27 episodes of essentially the same formula, the evil kingpin wasn’t taking any chances. He let out a mighty roar and drove his fist straight through JHC’s chest.

There was now a giant cavity where JH Christopher’s heart used to be. Our hero was dead. All hope was lost.

… As it was in my simulation world.

A voice spoke to me from my halo. “Lord! Lord! Is it true you will destroy the world with a global flood?”

I groaned. This AI must have overheard my latest argument with Natasha-Lucy and Michael. I still haven’t figured out how the communication link worked between us and the simulation world.

It was a moot point now.

“I know I have failed to live up to your expectations,” the AI said, “but I’ve tried my best. I love my family. And I’ve always treated my neighbors with honor and respect. If you’d found it in your heart to spare my ancestor, Cain, why can’t you do the same for us?”

I grumbled as a flash overtook my computer screen.

JH Christopher was back on his feet, staring down Mammon with stoic eyes and blood dripping from the corner of his lips. He placed his left hand over his chest and pointed at the open cavity.
