The Expected Boredom That is Far Cry 6

Far Cry 6, continues to be another Far Cry boredom, just like Far Cry 5 was.

I still remember the very first Far Cry game. I suppose, for most gamers, they retain fond memories of the games they played when they were young, carefree and generally just enjoying the joys of gaming. Somehow, Far Cry, was giving me an entire game play experience without any loading screens.

The game had corny writing, sexualized female side kicks (not a complaint. just an observation), monsters, evil scientists and a lush, island with beautiful water graphics.

Everything a horny teenager could ask for.

By the time I played Far Cry 2, I was already an adult. There were no cleavage bearing side kicks this time, nor mad scientists. But the super serious African civil war setting and incredible gun play had my attention. I played that game multiple times, constantly wondering and engrossed by this ‘Jackal’ guy.

Then, Far Cry 3, of course, blew my mind. The twist in the middle of the game came without warning. So did all the drama and engaging story. The voice acting and character development and large scale battles.

Eventually Far Cry 4, the logical peak. An astounding tale of parents, missing siblings and the mountain setting climaxed incredibly.

But, they should have stopped. They did not. I played Far Cry 5 till the ending. The lame implementation of ‘choose your gender’ was a turn off. Ubisoft is not Valve. They cannot pull off a silent protagonist. That requires quality writing and effort. I forced myself. letting myself lose in all that crazy gun play and explosions. It was still fun.

Now, bah! I have installed and removed Far Cry 6 twice. I am not enjoying the setting as much as I would. I am not thrilled by the villain. The gun play is no longer enjoyable. The voice acting is okayish, but everything else — the story, characters, vehicles, environment — is routine.

And once again, the Ubisoft marketing goes ‘overdrive’ with it’s ‘world politics’ and ‘real life something something commentary’ messaging. Then, the actual has nothing to comment on. The game treats the whole thing like it was a comedy.

Ubisoft has definitely made the ‘two gender’ feature nicer. There are actual lines, physical person that you can see in cut scenes and photo mode. I will give them that.

this is probably the exact same model, texture technology and animations from Far Cry 3. Seriously.

Please stop making any more Far Cry games. Or do something completely offbeat and outlandish like Blood Dragon.
