Why Most People Give Up On Their Dreams

And why I won’t and you shouldn’t either

Okay, first let me list our most predictable enemies:

Social media algorithms aren’t actually the enemy — but judging by how we bitch and moan about them you’d think they were.

During any platform’s early days, getting traction is so easy. But when the platform becomes saturated, organic reach drops like a stone and the going gets tough.

My first YouTube channel, onto which I uploaded unedited, unscripted vlogs, grew to a few thousand within a year. This was back in 2014-2015.

By contrast, my current YouTube channel, despite its objectively better content, has barely scraped a tenth of the same following within a similar timeframe. Welcome to 2020–2021.

When you see a drop in views on the content you put out there it’s easy to feel like the platform’s altorithm is conspiring against you. It’s easy to let that feeling of struggling uphill while getting pelted by icy rain deflate your dreams.

But you need to remember

It’s been a while since I’ve had a good hater. I’m not counting the followers I lost over not condemning our shared icon Marilyn Manson’s accusers.

Personally, trolls and haters don’t bother me one iota. Maybe it’s because I was bullied as a kid. I’m used to haters. I’ve grown a thick skin and I sleep perfectly well at night knowing that some people out there despise the things I say and do.
